Annual Report 2013
Supporting and Attracting EU Business in and to Indonesia:
EKONID takes the lead of the EU-Indonesia Business Network
The EU-Indonesia Business Network (EIBN), initiated by the EU co-funded ICI+
program, was officially launched on November 12 in Jakarta. In line with the EU
strategy to promote and support SMEs’ economic activities outside the EU, the EIBN
seeks to develop further the business opportunities for European companies in the
Indonesian market. By promoting Indonesia as a high potential trade and investment
destination as well as providing hands-on business support to EU companies interested
in expanding their activities in the country, the EIBN aspires to be the bridge between
EU and Indonesia to enhance economic activities and deepen bilateral relations.
The EIBN is a consortium partnership set up between seven chambers of commerce
in Indonesia and Europe: EKONID – lead implementing partner, BritCham, IFCCI, INA,
EuroCham Indonesia, EUROCHAMBRES (Brussels) and CCI Barcelona. The EIBN is one
of two complementary components supported under the 5-year EU project. The second
part of the program supports EuroCham in enhancing analysis and advocacy to improve
market access of European companies to the Indonesian market. The two components
will closely work together in developing new opportunities for trade and investment
by providing accurate and timely information to EU businesses on conditions for
trading and investing in Indonesia as a gateway to ASEAN and also by establishing an
environment conducive for policy dialogue and business networking.
The EIBN can rely on its good cooperation with the European embassies and business
organizations in Jakarta: support to various European companies already started. In
the near future, the EIBN will launch an extensive web-portal featuring all information
relevant to doing business in Indonesia as well as in depth sector information. In
parallel, the EIBN will participate in several events in the EU to promote Indonesia as a
high potential trade and investment destination. The EIBN also aims at strengthening
its cooperation with the various European and ASEAN stakeholders in the region in
order to help develop a comprehensive European market access strategy in ASEAN.
