ANNUAL REPORT 2017 - page 29

For German companies, Indonesia offers a wide range of
business opportunities. Through our business delegation
department, EKONID introduces German companies to
the Indonesian market and to potential business partners.
Throughout each year, different sectors are in focus.
Shipbuilding and Maritime Technology
Early in 2017, EKONID welcomed a business delegation
from Germany in the field of shipbuilding and maritime
technology solutions. The program was a follow up to a similar
delegation in 2015. Accompanied by representatives from the
German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and
the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association
(VSM), 12 companies signed up for the program.
From February 19 to 25, the delegation visited Surabaya,
the shipbuilding center of East Java, as well as the country’s
business center in Indonesia’s capital city of Jakarta. The
VSM was the primary partner for the identification of the
companies in Germany.
EKONID set up technical seminars and individual business
meetings in both cities. Close to 140 participants attended the
seminars. Furthermore, the EKONID team set up 63 individual
business meetings with potential Indonesian business
partners. In Jakarta, the German Embassy and the Indonesian
Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs were invited
to open the event. The latter introduced the latest policy
measures for the shipbuilding sector.
The Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany
in Surabaya welcomed the German delegates in this second
largest city in Indonesia. For the organization of both
technical seminars, EKONID cooperated closely with the
Indonesia Shipbuilding and Offshore Association (IPERINDO)
and the Indonesia National Shipowners Association (INSA).
The chairman of IPERINDO gave a presentation regarding the
current situation of the shipbuilding industry and the business
potential.
As part of the delegation program, EKONID also organized
a roundtable discussion in Jakarta with representatives of the
Indonesian Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of
Fisheries and Maritime Affairs. In Surabaya, the two shipyards
PT PAL and PT Dumas were visited to provide the German
company representatives with insights into the domestic
shipbuilding activities.
“Being the largest single economy in ASEAN Indonesia provides vast
opportunities for German companies. However, entering the Indonesian
market is not an easy endeavor. With our Business Development team
we provide a wide range of services to ease the process of getting a foot
into Indonesia. Seeing the team embracing new challenges and creating
value for our clients is what keeps us motivated.”

Civil Security Technology
In order to capture market opportunities for building
security technologies, which has been on rise due to the rapid
growth of the construction business in Indonesia, EKONID
collaborated with several associations in Germany, namely
BDSW, BHE, TeleTrust, VfS and ZVEI, to explore the sector’s
potential in Indonesia, for which six companies signed up to
participate in this BMWi supported program.
To this effect, EKONID initiated close cooperation with the
Indonesian Association of the Security Industry (AISKINDO),
as well as the Association of Security Professionals and the
Association of System and Security Integrators (ASISINDO).
Furthermore the KADIN Indonesia Committee for Germany,
Austria and Switzerland was involved in the preparation and
implementation as well.
From May 14 to 18, technical seminars were organized
in both Jakarta and Surabaya. More than 130 participants
related to security technology participated in the conferences.
EKONID also arranged 50 individual B2B meetings.
