ANNUAL REPORT 2017 - page 47

Wisma Jerman hosted as many as three German business
delegations from diverse sectors with the total of 310
participants.
From February 21-23, the German-Indonesian Chamber
of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) in cooperation with the
German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy
(BMWi) and the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries
Association (VSM), organized a two day event in Surabaya
to facilitate the delegation members to explore market
possibilities in Indonesia. On the first day in Surabaya, the
delegation participants had the opportunity to introduce their
company and business activities through a Technical Seminar
on Maritime Solutions from Germany. This seminar took place
in the historic luxury Hotel Majapahit, which was officially
recognized as a cultural heritage landmark by the Indonesian
Ministry of Education and Culture in 2014.
A total of 80 participants attended this event. In
midafternoon, the seminar was followed by B2B meetings, in
which all delegates had the opportunity for business contacts
in verbal with representatives of the maritime industry of East
Java. In a later evaluation, the B2B meetings were described
as intensive, friendly and fruitful. The first day in Surabaya
was completed with a networking dinner with representatives
of the local business community, in which each delegate
had again the opportunity to be closer to potential business
contacts. The second day in Surabaya, which also was the
last day of the maritime delegation program, began with
a business breakfast. Representatives of the Indonesian
Hydrodynamics Laboratory (BPPT-BTH) and the state owned
port authority Pelindo III presented their speeches about ship
testing in Indonesia. Still on that day, the delegation also had
the chance to visit PT PAL Indonesia (Persero), an Indonesian
state owned shipyard, as well as PT Dumas Tanjung Perak
Shipyard, a well-known private shipyard that is currently run
by German alumnus Mr. Yance Gunawan.
From May 17-18, EKONID, with the support of BMWi)
and the Association of the German Private Security Industry
(BDSW) welcomed a German Business Mission from the Civil
Security Technologies and Services industry to Surabaya. As
many as six German security companies, with their activities
ranging from security training and consultancy to cyber
security, travelled to Indonesia to look at the country’s market
potential. The purpose of the visit was to gauge Indonesia
as a market and to look for potential partners in the region.
During the time in Surabaya, the business delegation had
the opportunity to introduce their companies through a
technical seminar titled “Civil Security Technologies and
Services from Germany”. The seminar was held in Balai Adhika,
in the historical Hotel Majapahit Surabaya and attended by
around 80 participants. After lunch time, still in the same
room, B2B matchmaking meetings were held. All delegates
had the opportunity to directly build up business contacts and
personally discuss business opportunities with representatives
of the civil security industry of East Java. On this occasion, one
of the participants, Mr. Lothar Sysk had the chance to meet
the Fire Department of Surabaya.
The third delegation in 2017 focused on hospital
construction and hospital equipment. The delegation, that
consisted of architects, project developers, trading companies
and medical equipment manufacturers, visited Surabaya from
November 8 to 9. The first day in Surabaya was opened by
a networking dinner attended by representatives of the local
business community where the delegation had the opportunity
to initiate business relationships and to share their business
experiences in a comfortable environment with the German
Honorary Consul of Surabaya, Indonesian associations, as
well as other professionals within the industry. The Technical
Seminar that took place on the following day attracted almost
150 participants. On this occasion, the business delegation
had the opportunity to introduce their companies to the
Indonesian Hospital Association of East Java (PERSI) and the
local participants. After the seminar, Indonesian participants
took the chance to obtain first-hand knowledge about the
core activities of each of the delegation’s companies and
exchanged interesting information through individual B2B
meetings.
In this coming year, Wisma Jerman will continue to
represent and support EKONID’s activities in Surabaya and, by
