projects. Students shall experience real working
life. How does the industry perceive the teaching
industry concept? Are schools considered as
competitors? To answer these questions EKONID
partnered with several provincial and district
chapters of Kadin to conduct interviews and focus
group discussions in West and Central Java. In total
more than 100 representatives from schools and
various industries were involved.
One key result was that industry and vocational
schools (SMK) should better coordinate their
activities, with Kadin functioning as the mediator
between both. In order to limit the competition
issue and rather provide an added value to the
industry, schools should rather focus on services,
which the private sector cannot conduct itself, thus
working rather complementary. These and other
recommendations were used by GIZ to develop
guidelines for other SMK that want to implement
the teaching industry concept in the future.
In order to better connect students and companies,
EKONID supported the organization of three job
fairs in Jakarta, Purwokerto and Solo. This time
the students received special attention. Human
resources development experts from EKONID
and other partners organized seminars on topics
like writing a proper curriculum vitae and how
to prepare for a job interview. In addition to that
EKONID provided individual consulting for students
who were looking for employment. With more than
1,000 attending students from various SMK, the job
fairs were a great success.
