EKONID
ANNUAL REPORT
2012
02
The year 2012 marked 60 years of diplomatic relations
between the Republic of Indonesia and the Federal
Republic of Germany. The highlight of the year was
without any doubt the state visit of the German
Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel beginning of July in
Indonesia. During her two days stay the “Jakarta
Declaration” was signed, outlining strategic areas
for future collaboration between the two countries
in the field of political, economic, social and cultural
cooperation as well as aiming to work together in
shaping the international agenda and architecture
and contributing positively and responsibly to global
causes of common concern and interests. EKONID,
together with KADIN, had the honor to host a luncheon
with Chancellor Merkel, President Yudhoyono,
seven of his cabinet ministers and 60 high ranking
representatives of the German-Indonesian Business
Community. This unprecedented event by the two
chambers, highlighted their partnership and strategic
role as interfaces between the political and business
community of the two countries and contributed to
new bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
The process of ever more intensifying economic
cooperation between Germany and Indonesia could

and Technology, Dr. Philipp Rösler. Furthermore,

in 2012 are the success of the Clean Batik Initiative
(CBI), which was even acknowledged by President
Yudhoyono, and which turned its focus from technical

to the world. The activities of EKONID in the field of
Vocational Education and Training took further shape
with an intensive cooperation with the Gesellschaft
